Computer Classes


Whether you're looking to learn new computer skills for a job, wanting to learn how to use a web-based email, or just have an hour of free time on your hands, the Rolling Meadows Library's computer classes are right for you! The library offers a wide variety of classes ranging from basic computer skills to advanced classes such as Microsoft Word 2007 and My Media Mall. Whatever your skill level, you are sure to find a class that's right for you!

Computer classes are taught in the library's new wireless classroom located on the second level in the Community Room. Classes are approximately 1½ hours in length including time for student questions during and after the class. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish.

Registration is required for all classes and class size is limited to eight (8) students per class so be sure to sign up early! For more information or to register for classes, please call the library at 847-259-6050. Persons with disabilities can arrange for special assistance by calling the library at least two weeks prior to any program.

Registration for Winter 2011 classes begins on December 1st, 2011.

Introduction to Computers

Wednesday, December 7th | 10:00 a.m.

This class will introduce students to the basics of using a computer by reviewing such topics as the basic parts of a computer, its operating system, typing, and much more.


Setting Up a Free E-mail Account

Thursday, December 15th | 10:00 a.m.

Using the free e-mail provider, Gmail, this class will demonstrate how to set-up a free online e-mail account along with basic tips and tricks for using your new e-mail account.


Managing Your E-mail Account

Wednesday, December 21st | 10:00 a.m.

Building on the class, "Setting Up A Free E-mail Account", this class will instruct students how to use their online e-mail and cover advanced topics such as attaching files, using your address book, adjusting personal settings and other advanced tasks.

Please note, a personal e-mail account is required prior to attending this class. Gmail is the recommended e-mail provider as it will be used in the class for demonstration purposes. If you do not already have an e-mail account, please attend the "Setting Up a Free E-mail Account" class first.


My Media Mall

Thursday, January 5th | 7:00 p.m.

Want access to library materials 24/7? Learn how to use the library's My Media Mall resource to download e-books and audio books to your computer, Kindle or other portable device.


Introduction to the Internet

Wednesday, January 18th | 10:00 a.m.

You'll be introduced to the basics of using the Internet including such things as using a web browser, researching topics, reading news stories, and much more.


Microsoft Word 2007

Wednessday, January 11th | 10:00 a.m.
Thursday, January 19th | 7:00 p.m.

This class will teach students how to use many of the features and tools included with Microsoft Word 2007. Students will learn about formatting, styles, margins, indents, headers and footers and more.


Searching the Internet

Tuesday, January 31st | 10:00 a.m.

Learn to use the Internet to research topics and search for information from various sources including search engines, online encyclopedias, and other resources.


Microsoft Excel 2007

Monday, January 23rd | 10:00 a.m.
Thursday, February 16th | 7:00 p.m.

Learn the features and tools included with Microsoft Excel 2007. You will find out how to enter data into a spreadsheet, use formulas, create charts and graphs, and more.


Microsoft Power Point 2007

Wednesday, January 25th | 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, February 22nd | 10:00 a.m.

Create sophisticated presentations easily by learning the basics of PowerPoint 2007 in this brand new addition to our computer classes. From school projects to sales pitches, this class can show you how to make your presentation a memorable one.
