Computer Classes


Whether you're looking to learn new computer skills for a job, wanting to learn how to use a web-based email, or just have an hour of free time on your hands, the Rolling Meadows Library's computer classes are right for you! The library offers a wide variety of classes ranging from basic computer skills to advanced classes such as Microsoft Word 2007 and My Media Mall. Whatever your skill level, you are sure to find a class that's right for you!

Computer classes are taught in the library's wireless classroom located on the second level in the Community Room. Classes are approximately 1½ hours in length including time for student questions during and after the class. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish.

Registration is required for all classes and class size is limited, so be sure to sign up early! For more information or to register for classes, please call the library at 847-259-6050. Persons with disabilities can arrange for special assistance by calling the library at least two weeks prior to any program.

Registration for Fall 2014 classes begin on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014.

Introduction to Computers

Saturday, September 6th | 10:00 a.m.

This class will introduce you to the basics of computers and how they work. We will discuss how to use a computer and its hardware and software.

 


The Internet

Thursday, September 11th | 10:00 a.m.

This class will focus on the Internet and the World Wide Web. We will discuss Internet safety, different ways to access the Internet, search engines, searching the Web, and helpful shortcuts using Google's search engine.

 


Setting Up a Free Gmail Account

Monday, September 15th | 10:00 a.m.

Using the free e-mail provider, Gmail, this class will demonstrate how to set up a free online e-mail account, along with basic tips and tricks for using your new Gmail account.

 


Intro to Microsoft Word 2007

Thursday, September 25th | 7:00 p.m.

We will review the basics of popular word processing software, including how to format, insert headers and footers, pictures, and change margin sizes.

 


Intro to Microsoft Excel 2007

Tuesday, September 30th | 7:00 p.m.

Learn the basics of this popular spreadsheet software. Including how to navigate, enter data, use basic formulas, and practice creating a basic budget.

 


Intro to Microsoft PowerPoint 2007

Thursday, October 2nd | 7:00 p.m.

Find out how to create sophisticated presentations including school projects, photo albums, or sales pitches.

 


My Media Mall

Thursday, October 9th | 7:00 p.m.

Want access to library materials 24/7? Learn how to use the library's My Media Mall resource to download eBooks and audio books to your computer, Kindle, or other portable devices.

 


Intermediate Microsoft Word 2007

Monday, October 13th | 10:00 a.m.

This class will discuss additional formatting for this word processing software and we will practice setting up Mail Merge documents.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word is required.

 


Intermediate Microsoft Excel 2007

Wednesday, October 15th | 10:00 a.m.
Tuesday, October 28th

This class will explore using more advanced formulas, setting up detailed spreadsheets, and creating charts and graphs.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required for this class.
